Christmas in York – The most magical place to be
There’s something quite magical about York, especially at this time of year! The city is decorated with twinkling lights and the streets are filled with festivities!
With only a week to go until the big day, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite independent retailers to visit if you’ve still got some last-minute gifts to buy, as well as some of the best places to visit to enjoy the festive spirit!
Great independent stores in York
Nearby our branch on Micklegate is the newly opened Hygge Shack. This beautiful Interiors store is the perfect place to pick up something special for anyone who loves a little luxury in their home with candles and lanterns, cushions, throws and much more available.
If you’re looking for something a little different, Blossom Street Gallery is another great independent to visit on Micklegate with original artwork and beautiful prints from many local and regional artists available. The gallery also stocks cards and gifts and hosts regular exhibitions.
For men who are notoriously hard to buy for, why not call in to Cuffs & Co at their new home on Goodramgate. With a huge range of British made cufflinks, collar stiffeners, socks, braces & belts there’s something to suit everyone.
Don’t forget Barnitts, the one stop shop for almost anything! A walk through the expansive store is sure to be inspiring with everything from homewares and kitchenware to electricals or even something for your family pet!
Things to see and do this Christmas
St Nicholas Fair
A wander around the traditional chalets at the well-renowned St Nicholas Fair browsing the festive treats on offer is guaranteed to get you feeling merry and bright.
A visit to Father Christmas
It would not be Christmas without paying a visit to Father Christmas. This year he will be appearing in York Castle Museum and Santa’s Grotto on Coppergate Christmas Market until 23rd December.
Christmas at Spark!
Spark:York will feature cinema nights of Christmas classics on Wednesday evenings throughout December. Make sure you wrap up warm!
A trip to the Panto
There’s nothing better than a great pantomime at this time of year! Cinderella is on at the Grand Opera House and be sure to see the Grand Old Dame of York at York Theatre Royal as Berwick Kaler takes his final bow after 40 years.
