Market Brief: A busy window approaches
If you’re wanting to move in 2017 now is a good time to get your house on the market as we traditionally see a pickup in the marketplace at this time of year.
Buyers will turn their attention to finding something over the early autumn in order to be moved in before Christmas now that the summer holidays are drawing to a close and children going back to school.
However, this is a very short window as by the end of October prospective purchasers are usually more interested in Christmas, so to give yourself the best possible chance of moving this year, it’s imperative that you get your house on the market by early September.
The market continues to remain strong primarily due to a lack of supply of new houses coming on to the market caused by some uncertainty in the economy. However, this means that where many people have put their decisions on hold, those that are getting on with things do tend to get a good response as there is little competition from other houses on the market.
The lettings market within York continues to be strong in contrast to the national market which appears to be in decline with record low numbers of properties coming onto the market.
In supply terms we are working with a number of developers to bring more new houses forward. When these new properties have come to the market, they have been extremely well received but the process is slow through planning although we can certainly see more in the pipeline than we have for many years.
